This and That And a Little More

First off, I found a lot of coupons, so if you are a couponer or need to run to the grocery story, maybe this will help.  It also has some really good offers like the ones below:

Click on these offers to check them out:

Also, there is quite a bit of Instagram going on among bloggers.  Here are a few of the activities!

Here is what Jessica says:  Are you on instagram?  If so join me in connecting teachers on instagram! Copy or screenshot the above photo and post it on your Instagram with the hashtag #teachersfollowteachers. You can then click on that hashtag to find other teachers to follow!

Alisha, aka The Bubbly Blonde is asking that teachers take pictures of great Back 2 School finds.  Upload them and use the hashtag in the pic!!

Last but not least, here is an item in my Teachers Pay Teachers store that I recently revamped:

This is a pretty cool set of 'stuff' if I have to say so myself!  Lots of fun activities for kids to do so that they can learn more about sentences.  It is kinesthetic in that there are games and sentence sorts incuded!  There are enough activites in this packet to last at least a month, or maybe more!

Well, that is all for today!!  I hope you found something that you can use!

Enjoy Tuesday's Post Early!

Oops, I got trigger happy and sent this out a day early.  Oh well!  Enjoy!

My little guy is having to do a cloud observation project, so I made this for him.  I thought I would share.  The more the merrier.  =)  Just click on the pick to download.

The past few weeks I have had a really hard time with bronchitis and I have used the heck out of this pack that the sunniest of sunny teachers has out on the market. The work in it is correlated with common core and the kids are learning from it while I try to get my voice back.  She has saved me several times during the last few weeks and doesn't even know it so, Denise, thanks you so much!!!

Rubrics for Reading

Hello everybody.  It has been a wild ride here with the weather....first a two hour delay on Wednesday  morning, an early dismissal for sleet/ice on Thursday, and a two hour delay again this morning due to ice.  We live in a mountainous area with lots of drop-offs so we have a high freakability rate when it comes to inclement weather!!

Today I wanted to pose a question:  Do you use rubrics to assess reading?  As Common Core is depended on more and more and my district has encouraged the use of rubrics to assess accuracy, fluency, comprehension, understanding of fiction and non-fiction,etc--basically the whole reading enchilada--it has made me really ponder how I can increase the use of them.  It's also made me question where I can go to get information on them.  Right now I am going through a book that I have mentioned here before

and it has several suggestions about rubrics that can be used and even suggests that these rubrics be attached to other reading assessment forms in order to fully plan for students.  When you think about how many rubrics that are needed with common core, it could lead to chaos or a lot of extra work.

If any of you have sources for common core rubrics, please leave them in the comment section below!  I would love to get some resources gathered.

Working All Day....

And there was no time to play!  I've even resorted to teaching my 10 year old how to use Publisher so that she can type for me.  She's not a big fan of it until I pay her.  LOL!!

Today I finished up working on some centers that I have needed for a while.

Common Core Standards

L.1.1

Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.

W.2.5

With guidance and support from adults and peers, focus on a topic and strengthen writing as needed by revising and editing.

L.3.1

Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.

This center helps with fragments, run-ons, and the different types of sentences that we use when writing.  I would love to type more for you, but I have lesson plans to write!!

Building Bridges With Unlikely Friends (non-fiction)

When you look at these covers it is hard to believe that they are non-fiction.  Talk about opposites attracting!  I am really excited about sharing these books with my students.  I think they will be enthralled because of the differences of the animals, yet there is still that strong link.  Click on the pictures to read the summaries about these books.

Enjoy!

Multiple Choice Helpers

It is that time again.....time to start practicing test taking strategies for the state tests.  As always, I am striving to cut back on paper use to save a few zillion trees.  So...when going over our answers I began having the students use sign language for the letters A, B, C, and D.  That worked for a bit until others would look around to see what others had shown.  Then, they changed their answers and I had no clue what was even going on.  Instead of popping Maximum Strength Tylenol, I had the kids fix these neat and nifty little signs.  They could choose their own colors...so, no more copying off of others.  I simply had them hold up their flower and I could tell who had the correct answers.  I could finally monitor and reteach right then and there.

I hope this works for you!
